Abalone Shell Ring Necklace On New Website Header

Posted by richb on July 25th, 2007

Have you noticed the new header? We took out the antique marquisite detail and added a centerpiece created by ShaynaB Jewelry. The new feature is taken from the beaded necklace Abalone Ring and features a diamond shaped abalone shell with two smaller abalone pieces centered in a sterling silver ring. We felt this feature is a better representation of our creativity. Did you notice how the lines of the silver ring give the piece a sense of fluidity and movement?

Inspiration For Multiple Stone Chain Necklace

Posted by shayna on July 16th, 2007

I pick my outfit based on my jewelry.  Oftentimes I will be thinking about what style I want for the day and the first thing that comes to mind are the earrings, second the necklace, and then the clothes.  But, it doesn’t always work out.  Sometimes the occasion calls for the clothes to be the primary factor and the handmade jewelry comes second.  So, with that in mind, I designed Candy Shop, the perfect solution for any outfit.  It can be casual with jeans and a t-shirt and one of the many semi-precious stones will pull out the color of the t-shirt (including white!) or it can be more dressy where the faceted black onyx teardrop stands out as it hangs lower, almost magically suspended in mid-air, in the center of your chest.

Why “Candy Shop”? Because it is so colorful that, just like when you enter a candy shop, you don’t know which color to match it with because it suits so many combinations.

Inspiration For Labradorite, Kyanite, And Onyx Necklace

Posted by shayna on July 12th, 2007

Have you ever experienced not just one day of being overwhelmed, but multiple days, consecutively, adding up to at first just one week, then several weeks, and then when people ask how you are you simply reply “I feel like life is winning”?  Well, that was happening to me and a friend suggested “You work with stones, why don’t you use some of the healing properties of your stones to help you clear your mind?”.  I wasn’t a big believer in that, but I thought I’d give it a shot.

So, I purchased a book called Love is in the Earth by Melody and looked for some stones to help me through.  I found that kyanite “brings tranquility and a calming effect to the whole being”.  Labradorite allows the clearing of obscure thoughts and relieves insecurity and apprehension, enhancing faith and reliance in oneself. Onyx “helps one to follow the path alone, promoting the recognition of personal strengths and assisting one in the understanding of the reality of the moment”.

Combined the three created the piece “Clarity” which is a versatile necklace to be worn with jeans, suits, whites, blacks, and all the while adding a touch of clarity to your hectic day.

How and Why Costa Rica?

Posted by shayna on July 9th, 2007

People always ask the question “How did you end up in Costa Rica?”, and since the design headquarters is located here, I should tell you the story…

It all started when I was living in Atlanta, working as a physical therapist, and wanted to go on vacation and do some adventure activities in a far away place. All of my patients told me “Go to Costa Rica”. So, I started surfing on the web and found an adventure tour in Costa Rica. After a 10 minute phone call Serendipity, the tourism company, had me convinced that as a single, 29 year-old woman I would be safe and happy on one of their adventure tours. I booked it and went to Costa Rica for a week. I ended up being the only client on my trip because although it was a group itinerary, the other couple who had booked the trip canceled at the last minute. There I was, me, and two guides, having the time of my life! I went horseback riding, floated down a river with tons of monkeys and caymans, and birds, went canyoning down waterfalls, biking through coffee fields, and ran the Pacuare River. On the flight home I pulled out the airline magazine to see where Costa Rica was…

When I got home, Healthsouth, the rehabilitation company I was working for, went through some “problems” (the owner got caught embezzeling 2.8 billion dollars) and had to downsize. I figured what a great opportunity to go travel! I spoke with my boss who promised to give me a job when I got back from my trip and bought my ticket to go back to Costa Rica for 3 months.

I emailed one of the guys who had been one of my guides my flight info. and kept my fingers crossed the day I arrived. He was at the airport to pick me up, had found me an apartment to rent, and arranged with Serendipity for me to be a volunteer for three months. I got to go on all of the adventure activities, and when there were no trips, I cooked, cleaned and learned Spanish. I started dating the guy who picked me up at the airport, and as they say, “I fooled around and fell in love”.

First of all with the country. The town of Turrialba, where I live, is at the foot of a volcano surrounded by majestic landscapes displayed on nearby hillsides. The people are so kind. I was living a dream… I got to do adventure activities almost everyday and eat for free and learn another language!

Then with this man, who was first my friend, my boss, my work-out partner, my drinking buddy, and then became my boyfriend. Well at 30, I just knew. I was happier than I had ever been in my life! So, I went home for 2 1/2 weeks to think. I couldn’t come up with a good enough reason not to stay in Costa Rica, so I got back on the plane, brought the majority of my jewelry making tools and that is how it all began. I’ve always promised myself the day I am no longer happy I can always move back to the States!

Just by looking at the jewelry designs and reading their inspirational stories, you can see that day hasn’t come yet!

The Bubblebath Inspiration For Carnelian Necklace

Posted by shayna on July 6th, 2007

The inspiration for the color scheme of the piece “Bubblebath at sunset” came from the following experience. I was sitting in a tub full of frothy, lavendar sceneted bubbles to relieve the stress of the day, just in time to watch the sunset. As I looked to the west, I saw the sun setting over the Turrialba volcano. In the foreground was the iridescent green grass, and as I sank deeper into the bubbles, I saw the merging of the grass with the still pale blue sky, growing darker with every passing second. The clouds surrounded the top of the volcano, illuminated orange from the setting sun, with the silver lining visible just at the very edges of each dreamy shape.
